Vision 2020

I chose today to not write my own entry but to show you a letter from the Trinidad express: http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl/article?id=161287368

Manning's flight to glory
Tuesday, March 4th 2008

Of course I understand the need for a private jet service to meet the needs of our Government officials. The country must display physical evidence of its First World status! We already got skyscrapers in our capital city, complimented by traffic gridlock, mass consumerism, proliferation of fast food franchises, rising obesity among the population, one car to every three citizens and skyrocketing real estate prices. Non-first world images such as high crime rate, high inflation rate, astronomical food prices, crumbling health and education systems, archaic mass-transit system and vagrants on every corner will be swept under the carpet or simply ignored.

Go Emperor Manning, lead us into the promised land of 2020. We obediently follow.

Do You Remember The Times?

Remember Sunday afternoons with indian movies on ttt? every hit sounded the same and every noise was light years from what it was actually suppsed to sound like? for that matter, remember ttt? Trinidad & Tobago Television? how about AVM? channel 4 BEFORE the government bought it and made it just suck? AVM used to broadcast Sci-Fi late at night and we used to stay up to watch Outer Limits and Twilight Zone... early sunday mornings had Welcome Back Kotter, Gem and My Little Pony... back in the days before Trinidad got cable and there was only ttt, tv6 was like cable to us... it was new, it was hip it was fresh and it had programming ttt only dreamed about... if you can remember those times, realise how much things have changed...

Vision 2020

An Google search defines progress as "advancement, gradual improvement or growth or development". Advancement, improvement, growth, development: these are the words used to describe progress so that one would be lead to believe it meant getting better... In the past six years since the current government has been in power the crime rate in Trinidad has increased. Our murder rate (murders per year) has drastically increased every year. In comparison, Jamaica has been in past years synonomous with violence and yet for our size, we have surpassed them and continue to... The price of crude oil has a spike years ago during the last administration's time (same government) and yet we have seen none of this "surplus" doing the economy any good. The Mighty US of A, one of the most influential and powerful economies in the world is in debt and yet we are "supposedly" experienceing a surplus and where does it go? The Revenue Stabilization Fund and The Heritage Restoration Fund...
Good God we need help...

"Celebrities"

Why is it that we feel the need to know EVERY single detail about celebrities who give not a damn about us? Do you REALLY care that Britney not seeing her children? Is she your friend? In what way does she affect your life? Is she your boss? Who cares if Matthew McConaughey chooses to run half-naked? I personally don't like clothes people. At this point you have one of two choices and they both say to GET A LIFE!!! geez...

Progress

The cassette, the Compact Disc, the DVD... types of media storage devices that can easily be eliminated years from now as one can see with the availability of newer better media formats such as Blu-Ray. As far as technology goes, do you think we'll ever encounter information overload? Do you think that there will come a time when "hardcopy" is no longer needed? Think about this, if you can find ANYTHING on the internet then why keep it right? Would that way of thinking make EVERYTHING public knowledge until no one owns anything and information is shared so much that the internet becomes the replacements for books? Is that our destined history?
